Then...
Adam usually has at least one
Committee meeting every day. Because there are so many issues facing
Congress, the 435 Members of Congress are divided into committees. Adam
sits on the House Armed Services Committee, which focuses on military issues, and chairs the Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee.
Smith consults a committee staffer during his first hearing as
chair of the terrorism subcommittee of the House Armed Services
Committee.
Adam also sits on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
At a typical Committee meeting, Adam will listen to experts testify on
issues of importance and specific legislation.
For example, in the House Armed Services Committee, experts from
the Pentagon or branches of the Armed Services will testify on the
current state of the military or emerging threats around the world.
Then, the Committee will pass legislation authorizing certain programs
and authorizing certain military operations, such as which systems to
purchase and the pay and benefit structure of the men and women in the
Armed Forces.
