The Department of Education has dedicated February 6-10 as National School Counseling Week.

School counselors are the unsung heroes of the educational system.  These professionals take the time to care for students in public schools across the country.  They help students achieve their goals, reach graduation, and overcome the road blocks of life.  Handling the stresses and pressure of school can be difficult for kids but counselors take the time to listen, motivate, and inspire.

“School counselors help guide their student’s experiences, recognize their natural abilities, and put them on the path to realizing their dreams” said Congressman Smith. “ We should all take a moment this week to thank a school counselor who makes a difference in so many young people’s lives.”

National School Counseling Week is sponsored by the American School Counselor Association to honor the more than 29,000 professional counselors working in schools around the country.
