The Department of Defense Announced today that they approved nearly $91 million in grants to the Clover Park School District to "demolish and newly construct" Greenwood, Clarkmoor, and Beachwood Elementary Schools at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.  In addition to the grants from DoD, the Clover Park School District and Washington State will provide $23 million to the effort.

The DoD's advisory notice showed these elementary schools were on the DoD's "Public Schools on Military Installations Priority List"and demonstrated serious problems and deficiencies with the facilities.  This grant money stands to benefit around 1,550 students.  Congressman Smith released the following statement about the grants being awarded to Clover Park School District:

“This funding is the result of hard work by the Clover Park School District and many in the Washington State Congressional Delegation.  These funds are critical in making much needed rebuilding efforts for Greenwood, Clarkmoor, and Beachwood Elementary Schools.  All students in the Puget Sound region deserve access to high quality education in well maintained facilities, and I look forward to continuing to work with Congressman Denny Heck to ensure that they do.”
