Rep. Smith Statement on Former Congressman George R. Nethercutt, Jr.

SEATTLE, WA – Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash.) released the following statement on the passing of George R. Nethercutt, Jr. who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2005 representing Washington’s Fifth District.

“Former Congressman George Nethercutt was an influential leader who led with character and conviction and embodied what it truly means to be a member of Congress. He proudly served his district for a decade, tirelessly serving his constituents and working on issues important to our state like agriculture, health care, national security and defense, and government funding. After serving in Congress, George spent much of his time working to promote civic education and government service among younger generations, an effort that demonstrated his commitment to public service. George leaves behind a tremendous legacy and an example of leadership for elected officials in our state and across the country. My thoughts are with his loved ones as they mourn this incredible loss.”
