Rep. Smith Statement on Resolution Condemning Antisemitism

December 5, 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash.) today released the following statement on the resolution condemning antisemitism.

"Today I voted to advance a resolution condemning antisemitism. Since the October 7th terrorist attacks against Israel, there has been a tragic rise in antisemitism throughout the world. We must strongly condemn this hatred and bigotry and stand in solidarity with our Jewish friends and neighbors, many of whom are living in fear. I do not agree, however, with a line in the resolution that states that anti-Zionism is antisemitism. Conflating anti-Zionism with antisemitism ultimately undermines our ability to reach peace and combat the real and growing danger of antisemitism globally. Despite this, I believe it is of the upmost importance to condemn antisemitism, and that is why I voted for the resolution on the floor today."
