Youth Advisory Council

Congressman Adam Smith (WA-09) is accepting applications for the 2026-27 cohort of his Youth Advisory Council. The Youth Advisory Council gives community-minded and civically engaged students an opportunity to discuss critical issues with Congressman Smith and his staff. Participants will meet in-person once per month in the Congressman’s Kent office throughout the 2026-27 school year.

On the Youth Advisory Council, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Meet and interact with Congressman Smith and his staff.
  • Learn about the processes and operations of a congressional office.
  • Research and discuss policies and issues with other students on the council.
  • Draft memos containing legislative recommendations for Congressman Smith.

 

2026-27 Meeting Dates

All meetings run from 4:00-5:30pm unless otherwise noted. Meeting dates are subject to change.

All current high school and college students living in Washington’s Ninth Congressional District are eligible to serve on the Youth Advisory Council. Applications will be accepted from April 6, 2026 through June 1, 2026. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the weeks of June 22nd and June 29th, 2026 via Zoom.

*Note: Individuals are not eligible to hold an internship position in the Office of Congressman Adam Smith while serving on the Youth Advisory Council. If you are a college student interested in an internship position during the academic year, please consider this rule before applying to the council.
