Today Congressman Adam Smith (D-Wash.) will vote in favor of the "Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act," H.R. 975, to overhaul bankruptcy law to require debtors to take responsibility for their debts and repay them when they are financially able.

As Congress prepares to work on the federal budget and respond to the Bush Administration's proposed budget, Congressman Adam Smith (D-Tacoma.) has invited 9th District residents to participate in a workshop on balancing the federal budget. The workshop will be held on Saturday, February 22 from 10:00a.m. to 11:30a.m. at Renton Technical College, Building I.

On January 30, Congressman Adam Smith (D-Tacoma) received the Washington Credit Union League's "2003 Anchor Award."

The Washington Credit Union League gives this award annually to elected and other government officials who have advanced the financial well-being of the people of Washington state through support of credit unions. Smith was nominated for the award for his commitment and dedication to working with the financial services industry and specifically the credit unions of Washington State.
