WASHINGTON, DC – Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash.), Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement in response to President Trump blaming diversity requirements at the Federal Aviation Administration for the fatal collision of an Army helicopter and Canadair Regional Jet over the Potomac River Wednesday night.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Smith joined 153 House Democrats in sending a letter to the Trump Administration after President Trump issued an executive order on his first day in office that could pause all disbursements of Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding immediately. Neither the vaguely worded executive order nor a follow-up memorandum from Trump's Office of Management and Budget Acting Director Matthew Vaeth and National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett clarify which projects, programs, and activities are frozen.
I welcome the news of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which occurred as a result of intense negotiations and diligent work by our allies and partners across the region, aided by the leadership of the Biden Administration. This ceasefire agreement would provide a halt to the conflict that has waged for the last 15 months, ever since Hamas’ brutal attack on Israel, where they killed more than 1,200 people – including 46 Americans – and captured hundreds of hostages, including Americans.
Senator Murray secured major funding boost for Capital Investment Grants Program—which funded this award—in 2022 government funding package and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Smith released the following statement:
"On September 6, Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi was fatally shot in the West Bank while she was peacefully participating in a demonstration against Israeli settlements in the Palestinian village of Beita. Since then, we have requested an independent, thorough, credible, and transparent investigation into what happened that day to both better understand the circumstances of her death and ensure that if any laws were broken those who were responsible are held to account.
I voted against the partisan Republican proposal today because it was created solely to serve Musk and Trump, not the American people.
Trump and Musk are holding the U.S. government hostage to personally improve their standing. Musk intervened to protect himself from a China provision that would hurt his business interests. And Trump insisted on raising the debt ceiling so that he would be able to make a massive tax cut for billionaires and CEOs as soon as he gets into office in 2025.
