Press Releases
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. Smith released the following statement:
"It is one of my greatest honors to work for the people of Washington's Ninth Congressional District. Over the next two years, my team and I will remain dedicated to serving the people of Washington’s Ninth District.
WASHINGTON - Rep. Smith released the following statement celebrating the deal agreed to by Boeing and the Machinists last night:
I am disappointed that Boeing Machinists and the company could not come to an agreement after yesterday's vote on the latest contract offer. Union members deserve fair wages, safe working conditions, and a voice within their company. I hope both parties return to the table promptly, especially after yesterday's report of a $6 billion loss in the fiscal third quarter. This failure has a profound effect on our nation's aerospace industry, and until negotiations can be successful, there will continue to be serious economic repercussions.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Smith released the following statement:
“Yesterday, the Israeli Defense Force killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. His death has been confirmed by DNA tests.
“Sinwar played a central role in the brutal October 7th massacre in Israel that killed more than 1,200 men, women, and children -- including 46 Americans -- and kidnapped hundreds more. Many hostages remain in captivity, including several Americans.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Yesterday, Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash), alongside Representative Rick Larsen (D-Wash), Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Wash), and Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash), sent a letter to Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg, IAM District W24 President Brandon Bryant, and IAM District 751 President Joe Holden urging further contract negotiations between their organizations.

Dear Mr. Ortberg, Mr. Holden, and Mr. Bryant:
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Last week, Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash) sent a letter to President Joe Biden urging the United States to impose sanctions on individuals and entities destabilizing the Middle East.
See the full letter below.
Dear President Biden,
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Smith releases a statement regarding Boeing’s employee layoff announcement.
"I am disappointed by Boeing’s decision to lay off 10 percent of its 170,000-employee workforce over the coming months. This is a hard day for Boeing employees across the world and many of whom reside in King County, Washington. My heart is with those employees and their families who will find themselves out of work.
The continued conflict in Gaza, the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, the ongoing proxy war with Iran, the fight with the Houthis, the fight with Iranian proxies in Syria — all of these conflicts are devastating to the civilian population and continue to place significant numbers of civilians at risk across Gaza, the West Bank, Israel, Lebanon, Yemen, and elsewhere. Each of these conflicts runs the risk of massive escalation.
Statement from Rep. Adam Smith on the one-year anniversary of the October 7 attack
Today, Representative Smith released a statement on the one-year anniversary of the October 7 attack, reiterating the importance of a ceasefire and a return of the hostages.
I strongly condemn Iran’s ballistic missile attacks against Israel. It's imperative that Iran halts these actions immediately. The U.S. remains committed to Israel's security and will continue to assist them in their defense. Iran has continued to be a destabilizing influence in the Middle East, supporting terrorist organizations in a half dozen countries. We must continue to stand up against Iran's malign influence in the region and support Israel in its efforts to defend against its attacks. The U.S.
